Country Football WA (CFWA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sheridan Kowald as the Head Coach of the State Country Women’s Team for the next two years, marking an important step forward for women’s football in regional Western Australia.

Country Football WA (CFWA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sheridan Kowald as the Head Coach of the State Country Women’s Team for the next two years, marking an important step forward for women’s football in regional Western Australia.

Kowald, who has become one of the most respected emerging coaches in Country WA, brings a rich blend of experience across community, regional and representative pathways. Her appointment follows several successful seasons at the helm of the Mt Barker Bulls Women’s program, where she guided the club to back-to-back success in 2024 and 2025.

Beyond her club achievements, Kowald has been heavily involved in representative football. She served as Head Coach of the GSFL side at the 2025 Women’s Country Football Championships and played a key role as Assistant Coach for the WA State Country Women’s Team in 2023, 2024 and 2025. These experiences have given her deep insight into the unique challenges and opportunities of bringing together athletes from diverse regional backgrounds.

A former player herself, Kowald represented South Fremantle in the WAFLW, the GSFL for Women’s Country Championships in 2021 and 2022, and WA State Country in 2022. Her playing journey, which also included time with South Bunbury and the inaugural Mt Barker Women’s Team, has shaped her commitment to regional pathways and her belief in the potential of country athletes.

Kowald says the opportunity to lead the state program is both meaningful and motivating:

’m incredibly honoured and excited to be appointed as Head Coach of the State Country Women’s team. Country football has played a huge role in my journey, so to now lead this group is something I’m proud of.  I’m really looking forward to working with a talented group of players and building a strong, connected team. My focus will be on creating a high-standard environment where players can perform with confidence, represent their regions proudly and perform at their best on the state stage.

CFWA has expressed confidence in her ability to elevate the program.

“Country Football WA are excited to have Sheridan take the reigns this year. She has been around the program for a number of years now and its great for her progression as a coach.

We are grateful for Rennie’s contribution as coach in the last couple of years, which has seen the program go from strength to strength, highlighted by a thrilling 1 pt win last year against the PFL.”

Sheridan will begin preparations ahead of the 2026 program, working closely with regional leagues, selectors, and support staff to assemble a competitive and cohesive state squad.
