The opening day of the 2026 Nutrien Ag Solutions Senior Men’s Country Championships delivered a fantastic showcase of country football, with the best players from across regional Western Australia taking centre stage.

Across three divisions, 15 matches were played as teams began their quest for championship glory, with several early title contenders emerging after impressive unbeaten starts.

Division One

Defending champions South West made an immediate statement, opening their campaign with victories over Peel and Avon to finish Day 1 undefeated and on top of the ladder.

Caleb Stevens was outstanding in the opening-round win over Peel before Jack Fletcher, Tom Gorter and Jamahl Mulholland helped steer South West to a second victory against Avon. Up forward, Liam Breighton and Caleb Stevens each kicked two goals in the opener, while Liam Creighton booted another two in the afternoon clash.

Peel bounced back from its opening loss to comfortably account for Great Southern, with Hayze Griffiths, Riley Mitchell and Brad McPhail leading the way. Michael Stevens finished the day with four goals across two matches.

Avon split its opening two games after defeating Goldfields before falling to South West. Tom Lee starred with four goals in the opening win and continued his strong form later in the day.

Great Southern recovered superbly after its opening defeat to Peel, defeating Goldfields behind standout performances from Ryley Valli, Steven Edwards and Bodhi Stubber.

Division Two

Eastern Districts and Central Midlands Coastal emerged as the early pace-setters after both completed unbeaten opening days.

Eastern Districts edged out Ongerup in a thriller before defeating Lower South West to sit atop the ladder. Sam Collins, Thomas Baldwin and Darcy Dixon were among their best performers, with Baldwin kicking two goals in the second match.

Central Midlands Coastal also made it two from two, holding off Upper Great Southern before defeating Lower South West. Jason Gilbee, Blake Garraway, Robert Warrell and Lachlan Norris were instrumental throughout the day.

Upper Great Southern bounced back from a narrow opening-round loss to Central Midlands Coastal by defeating Ongerup, with Charlie Keast, Fraser Goode and Simon Panizza leading the response.

Division Three

Mortlock and North Pilbara were the standout performers in Division Three, both recording two convincing victories to remain unbeaten.

Mortlock defeated Hills before producing the biggest win of the day with a commanding 75-point victory over North Midlands. James Moore starred with five goals in the second match, while Charlie Harding, Bradley Jetta and Tristan Pearson were influential throughout the day.

North Pilbara also impressed, comfortably defeating Central Wheatbelt before overcoming Hills to sit second on percentage. Daniel Farmer was the headline act, kicking nine goals across his two matches, while Blaine Boekhorst, Jedd White and Kenton Smiler were consistently among the side’s best.

Central Wheatbelt responded after its opening loss by defeating North Midlands to keep its finals hopes alive, while Hills and North Midlands will be looking to bounce back on Finals Day.
