Directors

The Country Football WA Board consists of Directors who are either elected at the AGM or appointed by the Board (up to a maximum of three). Directors serve two-year terms, with five members up for election each year.

Elected 2023 as a director, Mel has been involved in team sports from a very young age. Mel has been a part of the Western Border Football and Netball League and the Mid SE league in SA as well as the Horsham Football Netball League in Western Victoria playing various roles within AFL and Netball. Moving to WA in 2001, Mel got involved as a RDFA member and various roles for the Southerners Football Club along with being the Vice chair of the Great Southern Regional Board, Junior Football age group coordinator then nominated as president of SDJFA for 6 years. Once her son was drafted to Royals in the GSFL, she took up the volunteers coordinator and U16’s Team manager. Mel was nominated as President of Country Football WA in March 2024.

Greg joined CFWA in 2017 and brings with him a wealth of experience from football in the Mortlock where he was a former President for six years. Greg has experience on the League Committee, and with the Goomalling FC, and has run a successful Agribusiness in the region. He has a passion for grass roots football due to the social impact it can have in regional communities.

Elected in 2023, Curtis was raised in both the Gascoyne and South-West Regions of WA and played 265 senior football games, 190 of these across the SWFL and CWFL country competitions, including playing representative football and WA State Country. This was followed on by Senior coaching, playing and committee roles in the Perth Football League for 7 years. Curtis is the General Manager of a national health and human services organisation, with a keen interest to improve the impact, sustainability and overall health of the Country Football in WA, so that our communities may thrive sustainably into the future.

Coming from being the Chairman of the South West Regional Football Development Council (SWRFDC), Mark has worked collaboratively with the WAFC and Country Football for a number of year. An East Perth Royal League player, Mark has been involved in football for a number of years as not only as a player but a coach as well. Mark has filled a casual vacancy in 2024 and looks forward to developing Country Football on it’s new path it is on.

She is eager to contribute her strategic leadership, sports consulting, and advocacy skills to support the growth and sustainability of country football, ensuring it continues to inspire, connect, and create opportunities for players, volunteers, and communities across regional WA.

General Manager, Port Operations, BHP Cindy Dunham has been actively involved in football at many levels for several years and strongly believes in the sport’s ability to provide a creative outlet, instil discipline, and foster teamwork. With a background in finance and law, Cindy has built a successful career in the mining industry and currently serves as General Manager of Port Operations in Port Hedland for BHP. She is committed to nurturing, growing, and developing community engagement through football.

Acting CEO, Great Southern Development Commission Football has played a significant role in Jarrad Gardner’s life, providing him with friendships, lifelong memories, and career development opportunities. By joining the board, Jarrad aims to give back to the game and support its growth across regional WA. He recognizes football clubs as the heartbeat of many towns, fostering social inclusion and a sense of community among players, supporters, and volunteers. Passionate about the social impact of grassroots football, he is committed to fostering inclusivity, collaboration, and high standards to support the growth and success of CFWA.

He has served on multiple boards and committees, including the WA Sports Federation, Australian Country Football Council, and WAFL.With extensive football administration experience at the WAFC, WA Country Football League, and West Perth Football Club, Cameron now works at Guildford Grammar School, supporting football and sports programs.A dedicated leader with strong regional ties, he is passionate about growing and enhancing accessibility in football and is committed to providing strategic insights and leadership to the CFWA Board.

Brent Hedley is the Executive Officer of Country Football WA and Executive Manager Country Football, Facilities & Affiliates at WA Football. He brings experience across sport, education and the not-for-profit sector, with a strong focus on governance, community development and social impact. Brent is passionate about strengthening regional communities through football and supporting sustainable, inclusive pathways for players, volunteers and clubs across Western Australia. 

 

 

participation team

WA Football supports the service of the regions by employing regionally based staff in 8 regions to support participation outcomes state-wide. The participation team works with regional stakeholders, schools and communities to deliver Football programs across school aged cohorts across the state’s regions.

The participation opportunities for a young person in WA can include Auskick, Superkick, Junior Football, and AFL Nines, along with in-school programs sponsored by the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers. The Participation team has a focus on increasing participation, and where the interest allows, developing new initiatives to ensure diversity in participants, to First Nations and multicultural people and young women and girls.

He has a passion for Country Football and you can often see him out watching a game somewhere in the regions. Currently he looks after all regionally based Participation staff.

Proudly based in the Goldfields, Eshe is passionate about creating opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to connect, grow and thrive through football. Having been raised in the Goldfields and now raising her own two children there, community is at the center of everything she does. With a background in health care and more than a decade involved in her local football club, She’s seen firsthand how powerful sport can be in shaping lives. Eshe feels football has helped her grow, take on new challenges, build lifelong friendships, and create a strong foundation for her family. Alongside her role, she continues to play and volunteer wherever she can, from coaching Auskick and junior teams to supporting talent pathways, she’s being involved at every level  strengthening programs and community.

Regional Football Specialist – Midwest

Born and raised in Geraldton, Jayden understands the vital role football plays in regional communities and is passionate about strengthening participation pathways and future-proofing the game across country WA.

He currently serves as Player and Head Coach of the Chapman Valley Football Club, combining on-field leadership with club development.

Jayden’s playing career spans multiple leagues and states. He represented Brigades and Railways in the Great Northern Football League, spent two seasons in the Upper Great Southern Football League, and played in the Northern Territory Football League for the Southern District Crocs.

At state level, he played over 120 league games for East Fremantle in the WAFL. Jayden was drafted to the Western Bulldogs, where he played seven AFL games in 2011.

With elite-level experience and deep regional roots, Jayden is committed to growing and sustaining country football. Outside of football, he enjoys the beach, running, and time with his two dogs.

As the Wheatbelt Regional Football Specialist, Reidy is very passionate about AFL Football and its delivery in the Wheatbelt from Kalannie to Kukerin, focusing on grass roots, schools and community programs for females, First Nations peoples and All Abilities linking them in with community clubs and leagues and the broader community.

Specialising in all participation initiatives including Auskick and with a key focus on growing and sustaining the many participation programs and competitions in the region to allow the game of AFL to be the most accessible sport in the region. He has a focus on school based programs and competitions with the main goal of transitioning participants to community football.

 

The Midlands Region covers part of the Wheatbelt as well as the Midlands region along the coast from Lancelin to Dongara and inland to the East.

The competitions team works to serve Country Football’s 42 member leagues and their clubs, supporting their capacity to administer football competitions across the regions of WA. The team provides support across PlayHQ, tribunal, rules and regulations, coordinate the Country Championships & State Country Programs and sponsored promotional rounds such as Think Mental Health and Belt Up.
