The WA Football League and representatives from Country Leagues passed a resolution to establish the WAN Country Football League (WANCFL).
The founding officers included President Mr. A.S. ‘Bud’ Byfield, Senior Vice President Mr. R. Black, and Junior Vice President Mr. N.J. ‘Jock’ Beattie. Each attending league appointed a representative to the WANCFL Council, which was tasked with representing the interests of regional football participants across Western Australia.
WANCFL was managing country football competitions in areas south of the 26th parallel and west of Kalgoorlie, dividing the region into eight zones, each aligned with one of the WAFL clubs.
WANCFL applied for incorporation as an Associated Incorporation, aiming to promote, develop, manage, and represent country football interests.
The organisation underwent significant changes in 2023, transitioning to Country Football WA (CFWA).
CFWA is governed by 11 volunteer directors and supported by 19 dedicated WA Football employees.
As of 2025, CFWA oversees 25 Senior Leagues and 17 Junior Leagues, with approximately 27,500 registered players and weekly community engagement of more than 50,000 people.
