DAY 2 WRAP | Finalists Locked In Following Exciting Day Two

The stage is set for Finals Day after an action-packed second day of the 2026 Country Championships – Nutrien Ag Solutions Senior Men’s Division, with the three Grand Final match-ups now confirmed following another outstanding display of country football.

Division 1

Defending champions South West will have the opportunity to defend their title after completing an undefeated home-and-away campaign to finish on top of the Division 1 ladder.

South West opened the day with a commanding 12.3 (75) to 2.6 (18) victory over Goldfields before surviving a thrilling final-round contest against Great Southern, prevailing by just two points, 6.4 (40) to 5.8 (38). The narrow victory capped off a perfect four-win tournament and secured top spot.

Peel earned the second Grand Final berth with two convincing performances, defeating Goldfields 6.7 (43) to 2.2 (14) before finishing the day with a comprehensive 12.6 (78) to 2.3 (13) win over Avon.

Great Southern finished the carnival strongly despite falling just short of a Grand Final appearance, recording an impressive 9.3 (57) to 3.1 (19) victory over Avon earlier in the day.

South West forward Liam Creighton was one of the standout performers, kicking six goals across the day’s two matches, while Peel enjoyed strong contributions from Michael Randall, Darren Beard and Brett Hill throughout the day.

Division 2

Central Midlands Coastal continued its outstanding tournament, remaining unbeaten to claim top spot on the ladder and a place in Sunday’s Grand Final.

After accounting for Ongerup 7.7 (49) to 3.5 (23), Central Midlands Coastal overcame Eastern Districts in a hard-fought contest, winning 5.3 (33) to 4.2 (26) to finish with four wins from four matches.

Eastern Districts secured second place after beginning the day with an important 5.6 (36) to 4.1 (25) victory over Upper Great Southern before their narrow loss to Central Midlands Coastal.

Upper Great Southern kept its finals hopes alive with a 7.4 (46) to 4.0 (24) win over Lower South West, while Ongerup also recorded its first victory of the championships with a 7.3 (45) to 1.3 (9) result against Lower South West.

Mitchell Fitzgerald, James Williams and Robert Warrell again led the way for Central Midlands Coastal, while Eli Alexander continued his impressive carnival for Eastern Districts.

Division 3

Mortlock and North Pilbara will meet again on Sunday after finishing as the competition’s two standout teams.

Both sides recorded comfortable victories in their opening matches of the day before meeting in a match that ultimately decided top spot on the ladder.

Mortlock defeated Central Wheatbelt 10.7 (67) to 2.1 (13), while North Pilbara accounted for North Midlands with a dominant display. In the final game of the day, Mortlock held off North Pilbara 7.4 (46) to 5.6 (36) to complete an undefeated preliminary campaign and claim top position.

Hills also finished the tournament on a high with consecutive victories over North Midlands and Central Wheatbelt, highlighted by a remarkable nine-goal day from Adam McKinlay.

Mortlock’s Jacob Peletier was instrumental in the victory over North Pilbara, while Lawrence Roberts again impressed for North Pilbara in another strong performance.

The 2026 Nutrien Ag Solutions Senior Men’s Country Championships conclude on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, with three premierships to be decided.

The day begins with the Division 3 Grand Final between Mortlock and North Pilbara at 10:00am, before Central Midlands Coastal takes on Eastern Districts in the Division 2 decider at 12:15pm.
