60th Country Football Championships to showcase the best of regional WA

Sixty years of country football history will be celebrated this week as more than 600 of Western Australia’s best country footballers converge on Perth for the 2026 Country Football Championships.

Teams representing regions stretching from the Kimberley and Pilbara to Esperance, the Great Southern and the South West will compete across four days, showcasing the diversity and strength of country football across Western Australia.

Held from 9th – 12th  July, the Championships will feature 39 matches across six venues, bringing together the state’s leading country footballers, more than 60 umpires, coaches, volunteers and supporters for four days of representative competition.

The 2026 Championships also introduce several significant changes, including a new competition structure, revised event branding and the launch of a dedicated Championships Finals Event to celebrate the conclusion of the state’s premier country football carnival.

Country Football WA Executive Manager Brent Hedley said the Championships remained one of the most important events on the regional sporting calendar.

“For four days each year, the very best of country football comes together in Perth. It’s a celebration of the players, volunteers, leagues and communities that make regional football such an important part of Western Australia.”

“This year’s Championships also mark an important evolution of the event. We’ve introduced a dedicated Finals Event that puts the spotlight where it belongs – on the players, the competition and the crowning of our champions.”

“Everyone knows that country football has an extraordinary ability to bring WA communities together. These Championships showcase not only the standard of football being played across the entirety of our state, but the pride that communities have in representing where they come from.”

For the first time, the Championships will now operate under separate competition identities:

The revised structure better reflects each competition individually while creating greater flexibility for future growth.

Another major change sees the traditional Thursday evening launch event replaced by a new Championships Finals Event, to be held on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval alongside the Nutrien Ag Solutions Men’s Championship Finals.

The decision places greater emphasis on celebrating the conclusion of the Championships and recognising the achievements of participating leagues.

The Nutrien Ag Solutions Men’s Championships will be contested across three divisions of five teams, with matches played on Friday and Saturday before all three Grand Finals are held at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday.

This year marks the 60th edition of the Men’s Championships and the 52nd consecutive year of partnership between Country Football WA and Nutrien Ag Solutions – one of the longest running partnerships in sport.

The CBH Colts Championships will feature two divisions of four teams competing across Thursday and Friday at Scotch College and Guildford Grammar School. Restricted to players aged 19 years and under, the Colts Championships have now been contested for 28 years, with CBH Group supporting the competition for more than a decade.
