John O’Neill | Ongerup Football Association & Great Southern Football Council

The West Coast Poly Champion of the Month continues to recognise the volunteers who dedicate countless hours to ensuring country football continues to thrive, and for June, Country Football WA is proud to recognise John O’Neill for his outstanding contribution to football across the Great Southern.

A true stalwart of the Ongerup Football Association (OFA), there are few roles within country football that John hasn’t undertaken throughout his many years of service. His unwavering commitment, leadership and passion have made him one of the region’s most respected football volunteers.

Today, John serves as President of the Ongerup Football Association and Treasurer of the Great Southern Football Council, playing a vital role in supporting football across multiple leagues and communities.

In addition to his executive roles, John also coordinates the Lake Grace leg of the Great Southern Colts Carnival, one of Western Australia’s longest-running and most prestigious colts age football carnivals. His planning, organisation and attention to detail help deliver an outstanding experience for players, coaches, volunteers and supporters each year.

John’s contribution extends well beyond administration. Over the years, he has held numerous committee positions with the Lake Grace-Pingrup Football Club, including serving as Club President, helping guide the club through periods of growth while fostering a strong culture centred on community and participation.

Whether he’s organising competitions, supporting volunteers, balancing the books, or advocating for the future of country football, John approaches every role with the same commitment and genuine passion for the game.

His willingness to step up wherever needed has benefited not only the Ongerup Football Association, but football communities right across the Great Southern. John is a strong believer in the power of country football to bring communities together, and his leadership continues to strengthen the game for current and future generations.

John embodies everything the West Coast Poly Champion of the Month program celebrates—selfless service, outstanding leadership, and an unwavering commitment to community football.
