From Premiership Player to President: Lachy O’Shea Named Champion of the Month

West Coast Poly Champion of the Month – August

Lachy O’Shea | Kojonup Football Club, Lower South West Football League

The West Coast Poly Champion of the Month continues to shine a light on the people making a difference across regional football, with Kojonup Football Club President Lachy O’Shea recognised as the August winner.

Lachy’s journey with the Cougars began in 2018 and has already seen him make an impact both on and off the field.

As a player, Lachy was part of Kojonup’s 2023 League Premiership before stepping into the role of Vice Captain of the League side in 2024. His performances also saw him represent the Lower South West Football League on its return to the Nutrien Country Championships in 2025, where the league capped off a successful campaign by claiming the Division 3 title.

But it is Lachy’s willingness to step up beyond his playing commitments that has made his contribution particularly significant.

Understanding the important role a football club plays within a regional community, and the responsibility the current generation of players has in ensuring their club remains strong into the future, Lachy took on the role of President of the Kojonup Football Club in 2026.

Taking on a club presidency while still playing senior football is no small commitment, but Lachy has embraced the challenge and demonstrated the value of having current players actively involved in shaping the future of their club.

His first season at the helm has been an impressive one. While helping lead the club away from the field, Lachy has continued to perform on it, with the Cougars entering the 2026 League finals series undefeated.

His transition from premiership player and representative footballer to club President highlights the many different ways people can contribute to country football and the importance of developing the next generation of leaders within regional clubs.

For Lachy, it is about ensuring Kojonup Football Club remains a strong part of its community for years to come — and encouraging those currently enjoying the game to also play their part in its future.

Lachy’s leadership, commitment and willingness to give back embody what the West Coast Poly Champion of the Month is all about.

Congratulations, Lachy O’Shea, on being named the West Coast Poly Champion of the Month for August.
