2016 will mark an exciting year for the New Holland WA State Country Team with an expanded program to be run throughout this season. It all begins later this month with some of the best country talent available being invited to a 2 day camp in East Fremantle. The camp will aim to give the players a head start on their conditioning, a review of game structures and most importantly a opportunity to get to know their teammates.
The camp will be followed by scratch matches against WAFL reserves sides in the lead up to the season with a potential two matches to be played before March. Other trial matches will include the annual match against the WAAFL for the Kevin Duffy shield scheduled for late June.
It all leads to thematch against the South Australian Community Football League, held in late July in Adelaide. In an exciting development the match has now be scheduled at the new Adelaide Oval before an AFL fixture between the Adelaide Crows and Essendon Bombers.
Coach Craig Walker is excited about the upcoming season
“We have not had a program of this size for quite some time, so we are really looking forward to having all the guys together for the camp”
“This could be the start of something special this year after we have had a few lean years against the South Australians, so plenty of the boys are looking to get one back on them this year, especially on their home turf”
