On Sunday afternoon at the WAFL Grand Final, West Coast Poly announced Narrogin Hawk Mark Deaves as the 2015 West Coast Poly Player of the Year. This follows a fantastic year for Mark as he returned to country football full time after several years in the WAFL system.
It seems that the Narrogin Hawks was the perfect fit for the big full forward as he had one of the best years in front of goal that country football has seen for some time. In total Mark kicked 144 goals in 18 games (an average of 8 per game) in season 2015 which included some impressive performances.
In a three week span Mark kicked 13, 20 and 14 goals and made himself an automatically selection in the WACFL state team that took on South Australia back in July. While it was a bad day for WA in general, Mark was one of the few players to step up and finished with 3 goals after a very limited supply.
Mark represented the Upper Great southern in this year’s Landmark carnival and they went close to knocking off the powerful South West team in the grand final but a slow start crueled his team’s chances. Just two weeks ago Mark’s Narrogin Hawks broke through for a drought breaking premiership in the Upper Great Southern.
Across all competitions in Australia Mark was the third highest goal kicker which is an amazing achievement.
Mark joins 2014 winner Daniel McGinaly from the Busselton Football Club and 2013 winner Brent LeCras from the Cervantes Football Club in some elite company.
The WACFL would like to thank West Coast Poly for their continued support of country football and helping the best talent be formally recognised.
