South West Footy League were too good for Upper Great Southern in the Division 1 Grand Final to win their fifth straight title.

The first quarter proved the difference in the match as the South West were extremely efficient and had numerous avenues to goal.  Matt Martin kicked 3 goals prior to half time and came off the ground with a leg injury.  Graeme Jetta was the dominate player in the first half whilst Denholm King won the Landmark Medal as best afield for his impressive four quarter performance.

Despite the loss, Uppers will remember the Carnival as a successful one in which they qualified top from the pool matches after three wins from their four matches.  Narrogin's Mark Deaves and Quinton Bolton worked well together and both hit the score board but were starved of enough quality entries to kick a winning score.

Blair Forrest was outstanding across the carnival and proved his versatility matching up on inform small forward Jace Cormack.  Kane Shepard was also solid through the midfield in the qualifying matches.

For the South West, it was class across all lines starting in the middle with Graeme Jetta taking out the Jock Coleman Medal as the outstanding player of the carnival. Solid Half Backmen Simon Parry was hard to pass and provided plenty of attack from half back while Chris Andrew and Kurt Tropiano played well in a number of positions.

The talking point of the carnival was the Great Northern team with a number of high class names in their final 30.  An injury to Leith Teakle at the end of day one robbed the GNFL of a quality midfielder which was telling to the final standings and a win (instead of a draw) against the South West in the final qualifying match would have seen South West fail to qualify. Jordan Ugle was recognised as an All Star for his solid carnival and Liam Ryan was announced the WAFL Past Players Rising Star of the senior division and has a bright future in football.

Peel and Avon were both competitive but both team's were only able to win one qualifying match each.  Chris Shawcross and Alistar Smith worked well together in the midfield for Avon while Rohan McHugh and Brad Holmes were Peel's best across half back and half forward respectively.
