Nufarm Spotlight: Championing Community – Kathleen Mier Wed, June 11, 2025 - 3:58 PM

Country Football WA is proud to launch the Nufarm Spotlight: Women in Country Football initiative – a new campaign celebrating the outstanding women who help keep the game strong across regional Western Australia.

Proudly supported by Nufarm, the initiative will highlight one remarkable woman each month from June to September 2025, recognising the dedication, leadership and community impact that women bring to Country Football. From volunteers and administrators to coaches and officials, these are the women who make footy happen.

For our Round 1 recipient, we are proud to recognise Kathleen Mier, current Director of the Great Southern Football League.

Kathleen’s involvement in football began almost 19 years ago, not because of family ties to the game, but from a desire to give back to her community. Introduced to Royals Football Club by her business partner, she quickly became a fixture at the club and eventually within the league itself.

A defining moment in her football journey was becoming the first female president of Royals Football Club, making her the first female president in the history of the Great Southern Football League—a milestone she remembers with pride.

Beyond her formal roles, Kathleen has long been a dedicated volunteer across several sports. For her, Country Football is about more than the game—it’s about building relationships, creating inclusive spaces, and providing opportunities for others to grow.

One of her proudest achievements has been the launch of the Youth Girls competition in the Great Southern Football League in 2025. It’s a tangible outcome of her advocacy and a reflection of her commitment to creating genuine pathways for young women in regional football.

Each month, the Nufarm Spotlight will share more stories like Kathleen’s—honouring the women who are making a real difference in their communities and helping Country Football thrive across WA.
