Country WA Talent Prepares for Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Girls Fri, April 4, 2025 - 9:56 AM

Western Australia will launch its campaign in the 2025 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Girls this weekend, proudly featuring regional representatives from across Country WA.

Six players from the Kimberley, South West, Goldfields, and Wheatbelt are among the 26-strong squad selected to represent WA, demonstrating the strength and reach of female football in regional communities:

  • Jasmine Roberts (Claremont/Kimberley)
  • Charlize Guidi (East Perth/South West)
  • Layla Scott (Peel/South West)
  • Maya Walsh (Peel/South West)
  • Marley Kelman (Subiaco/Goldfields)
  • Alexis Henderson (West Perth/Wheatbelt)

Ten teams will take part in the Championships, competing across two pools. Each team will play two matches, with games scheduled in five states from Sunday, April 6 to Thursday, April 17.

Joining WA in Pool A are the Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy, South Australia, Victoria Country, and Victoria Metro.

WA will be coached by Kate Orme, and the team will wear the inaugural Indigenous State guernseys throughout the championships – a design by WA’s own Jade Narkle.

Pool B includes the GWS Giants Academy, Northern Territory, Sydney Swans Academy, and Tasmania.

The team that finishes on top of each pool will be crowned the champions. If teams finish equal on points, the title will be determined by head-to-head results or percentage.

South Australia (Pool A) and GWS Giants Academy (Pool B) are the reigning champions.

Each team will name an MVP at the conclusion of the Championships, with an overall Best and Fairest and All Australian team also selected by a panel of AFL Talent Pathways staff and AFLW recruiters.

Live Streaming and Squads: All matches will be streamed live on the AFL Play YouTube channel.

WA Match Schedule: WA opens its campaign against Victoria Country at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday, April 6 at 11:30am.

The Marsh AFL National Championships and National Development Championships are the pinnacle of representative state and territory football for aspiring young athletes. They feature Australia’s top U16 and U18 male and female footballers – the future stars of the game.

The U16 Boys competition will follow in June and July, while the U18 Girls and U18 Boys championships will take place from June to August. WA's U18 Girls side begins play on Saturday, June 22, while the U18 Boys open their campaign on Sunday, June 1.

WA’s representation at all levels continues to grow, and the strong inclusion of regional talent in the U16 Girls squad reflects the important work being done across Country WA to develop and elevate emerging footballers.
