Starkick To Star During The AFL’s Half Time Thu, June 27, 2024 - 12:45 PM

Optus stadium will be over-run with 24 regional Starkick participants during the half time break of the West Coast Eagles v Hawthorn game on Sunday.

Participants will be travelling from all nine regional Starkick centres including Dampier, Broome, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Busselton, South Bunbury, Dunsborough, Manjimup and Albany.

Dampier participant Lincoln Hegan is heading to Perth for the game with Westlink Logistics covering his and his mother’s flights and accommodation.

The nine-year-old is so excited to be playing at Perth’s home of football, Optus Stadium.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Lincoln said.

“I’m looking forward to playing at Optus Stadium and meeting the other Starkick players.”

Lincoln, who has Autism and ADHD, finds it overwhelming to be around lots of people or noise.

Lincoln’s mum Carol says Starkick has provided a safe environment for Lincoln, offering many opportunities.

“He doesn’t like the idea of having to play a full AFL game and competition but loves to kick the footy around with his, friends and learn new drills - Starkick allows him to do that,” Carol said.

“Because of this flexibility he also gets to be part of a club - which he loves.”

Carol said the support from Westlink Logisitics to assist the family traveling to Perth has helped Lincoln to fulfill his dream of playing footy at Optus Stadium.

“Coming down to Perth for us as a family is huge,” Carol said.

“The logistics are challenging, but the opportunity to experience Optus stadium and the chance for Lincoln to play half time is incredible.”
