Saturday 11 February saw the New Holland WACFL State program kick off for season 2023. Nearly 30 male and female players from across the state including Carnarvon, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Donnybrook and many more got together at Fremantle Oval for a training session. It was the first time that the Men’s and Women’s teams have trained together and even though it is early in the year and the weather was warm all of those who trained thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to blow out the cobwebs. Chairman of Selectors Brendon Simpson was very impressed with not only the calibre of the players but how quickly they came together as a group and worked as a team. Many players were excited at the opportunity to take new training drills they learnt back to their club.
This year the New Holland WACFL Men’s team will be competing against the South Australian Country Football League team on the weekend of July 21-23 and the New Holland WACFL Women’s team will be taking on the might of the WA AFLW State 18s on Friday August 4th.
