2021 NAIDOC Belt Up Football Competition Winner Announced Thu, December 16, 2021 - 7:20 PM - by Zoe Bell

Congratulations to Gertrina Hayden on having her design chosen as the WACFL/ICWA Belt Up NAIDOC football for 2022.

The design a ball competition was made possible through the WACFL’s partnership with the Insurance Commission of Western Australia, promoting the Belt Up message.

The Belt Up campaign encourages seat belt use to reduce the severity of injury in a car accident. In 2020, 98 people who were not wearing a seat belt were killed or seriously injured on WA roads. This equates to four football teams.

Gertrina’s design depicts the green ovals played on all over the country with the blue and brown background and dots showing connection to the North and South of WA. Three large lines with white dots show the roads travelled by many family and community to all different towns and country ovals for the love of football. The small white lines joining the communities and football ovals and connecting to the main roads onto smaller country roads.

The winning entry will be used on 400 footballs provided to senior teams (Men’s and Women’s) in Western Australia as part of the annual Belt Up Round which will move into its 24th year in 2022.
