The Fortescue National Football League introduced an all-female Executive Board for the first time in their history at an AGM last week.
President Nicole Mizen, Vice President Mel Farmer, Secretary Ash Docherty, Treasurer Karen Myczka and general committee member Tammy Gihselberti will make up 50% of the FNFL committee in 2021.
This is currently the only all female executive in senior men’s football in WA.
President Nicole Mizen grew up in Paraburdoo where her parents were heavily involved in the Saints Football Club. Moving down to the city after finishing school Nicole continued to be involved in sport and played softball for WA and Australia. “I've now had 22 knee op's, 2 spinal fusions and 3 shoulder op's, so I'm very much a keen observer of most sports now,” Mizen said.
Mel Farmer has lived in Tom Price for 11 years previously and has been back residential with her family for the past three years. She grew up as a dancer and a dance teacher, so she is very organised and structured. She has been the president of the Tom Price Junior Football League since 2019.
Ash Docherty has lived in Tom Price for 14 years, having gone to school here and then graduating and starting her own successful business. She is friendly and vibrant, with a bubbly and caring personality. Having grown up in Tom Price she always had friends and family involved in the footy clubs and as time has gone on she has fulfilled club committee positions and at a time that the league struggled for volunteers, she has put her hand up to be on the executive of the league.
Karen Myczka unlike the other ladies is born and raised in Perth and lived and breathed footy all her life, as her dad played and coached. She played netball and softball and was also a state darts player, so has seen various competitions run. She has lived in Tom Price for the past 2 years and has been visiting for the past 9 years. She has fallen in love with the place and loves how family friendly it is, so she wants to contribute to that going into the future and being on this committee will allow her to do that.
With the Fortescue National Football League not having a season this year, four very footy passionate and community focused Executives will help them bounce back in 2021.
