Central Wheatbelt Strong Winners Tue, June 28, 2016 - 10:27 AM

With the blending of Division 2 and 3 at this year's championships, some may have predicted Division 3 sides may struggle in the step up to a combined Division 2. Both Ongerup and Central Wheat Belt dispelled this myth in their first matches of the Landmark Championship.

CWB recorded the biggest win of the round at home to North Midlands. After winning the toss and kicking with a strong breeze, CWB were able to capitalise and extend their advantage at each quarter.

Caleb Shadbolt floated across the half back line for the majority of the day and displayed elite kicking skills on both sides of his body in blustery conditions.

His Mukinbuddin teammate Tim Sippe was the dominant forward on the ground kicking four goals in the first half and finishing with 5.  Beau Wagner also got better as the game went on and finished with a four goal haul.

The CWB on ball brigade will cause Mortlock and Central Midlands some headaches in the coming weeks with the likes of Josh De Buelle, Blake Smith and Luke Yates in good touch.  Smith showed his usual dashes of pace whilst Yates at times shared a wing and had a nice clash with Morawa speedstar Alan Egan who was close to North Midlands best and finished with two goals.

North Midlands had some good contributers with Ruckman Brent Payne being awarded a match ball as their best player while Centre Half Forward and Centre Half Backs Joel Maucheline and William Connell also took some strong marks throughout the day.  North Midlands will add some of the leagues key players to their squad for the Perth matches and is capable of upsetting a team throughout the weekend.
