Belt Up Round Returns for 28th Season Across Country Football WA

Country Football WA and the Insurance Commission of Western Australia will once again deliver the annual Belt Up Round across the weekend of May 15–17, 2026, marking the 28th consecutive year of the partnership promoting road safety throughout regional Western Australia.

The round will be delivered across all competing senior leagues, reinforcing the simple but critical message: Belt Up. Every Trip. Every Time. With more than 12,500 country football players taking the field each weekend, the campaign continues to use the reach and influence of football to drive positive behaviour change in communities where travel on regional roads is part of everyday life.

For many involved in country football, the message carries real significance. Road trauma has impacted countless families and communities across regional WA, and as a mark of respect, a minute of silence will again be observed prior to league matches throughout the weekend.

The Insurance Commission provides motor injury insurance to the Western Australian community, covering more than 2 million drivers and 3.3 million registered vehicles. Seatbelt use remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the severity of injuries in a crash, yet too many Western Australians are still seriously injured or killed each year while not wearing one.

Helen Robinson, Chief Executive Officer at the Insurance Commission, said the campaign continues to play an important role in reinforcing safe behaviours.

“Belt Up is an important initiative to encourage the use of seatbelts every time you get into a car, helping reduce preventable injuries and fatalities on our roads,” Robinson said. “Regional WA is overrepresented in crash statistics, and our partnership with Country Football WA allows us to take this message directly to communities who travel long distances each week.”

Country Football WA Executive Manager Brent Hedley said the round highlights the role football clubs play beyond the game.

“Country football clubs are leaders in their communities, so supporting the Belt Up Round has a positive impact off the field,” Hedley said. “Wearing a seatbelt is a simple action, but it can save lives. By making it a habit every trip, every time, we’re helping ensure players, volunteers and supporters get home safely.”

The Insurance Commission has been a long-standing partner of Country Football WA, providing thousands of Belt Up branded footballs each year to leagues and clubs across the state. These footballs serve as a visible reminder of the message, with each Best Player awarded a Belt Up match ball as part of the round’s activation.

Across the weekend, clubs are encouraged to bring the campaign to life through match day acknowledgements, social media activations and community engagement, with a call for clubs to “Show us how you Belt Up” and lead by example within their local communities.

While the statistics remain confronting, the message is simple. Wearing a seatbelt takes seconds but can make a life-saving difference. Through the continued partnership between Country Football WA and the Insurance Commission, Belt Up Round remains a powerful reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Look after yourself and your mates — Set the example and Belt Up, every trip, every time.
