Peel claim fourth CBH Group Colts Division One title in five years

Peel Football Netball League won their fourth CBH Colts Group Division One title in five years, defeating rivals South West by 26 points at The Good Grocer Park on Friday afternoon.

The Cavaliers completed an undefeated colts carnival with a hard-fought 9.8 (62) 5.6 (36) result.

Peel kicked five goals to two after half-time to cap off an impressive Nutrien Ag Solutions Country Championships campaign and make it back-to-back titles.

Peel young gun Riley Crowd, who plays for Rockingham, was named best-afield after a strong four-quarter performance, while the Clem Bray Medal for the best emerging player across the CBH Group Colts Division One went to Peel big man Trent Robertson, a 16-year-old ruck from Halls Head who looks an exciting talent.

Goalsneak Saul McCann was another standout for Peel, booting three goals including a stunner from the boundary in the final term which put the result beyond doubt.

Ken Baxter Medal for Division One’s fairest-and-best player went to South West’s Mason Hawkes.

Regional Districts caused an upset in the Division Two decider, knocking off the previously-undefeated Kimberley Spirit by 46 points.

The Red Dogs, made up of players from the Upper Great Southern, Lower South West, Ongerup, Eastern Districts, Esperance and Goldfields competitions, turned around Friday’s eight-point defeated to the Spirit with a strong four-quarter effort.

Timothy George, who plays for Boulder City in the Goldfields, won the best-on-ground medal, while his club teammate Thomas Coughlan booted three goals.

For Kimberley, Cable Beach’s Liam Unicomb kicked four of the team’s six majors.

Great Northern finished third in Division One after a thrilling three-point play-off win over Great Southern, while West Pilbara got over the line by a goal against Avon/Mortlock to claim third in Division Two.
